As I sit here writing this, it has been about a month since I photographed a local festival. It was the first time I had ever done any type of real street photography.

Do I think my pictures will win any awards, absolutely not. However, I think it went well considering it was also the first time with the new camera.

One thing I have learned is that I was much happier with a focus during one of these events. There is only so much shopping, browsing and looking I can possible do. But if I have a purpose, then I am happy as a clam.

Before I went on my street photography journey, I, of course, did some research on the best way to capture those moments. The technique I adopted was keeping the camera about chest height and sometimes looking down at the screen.

If I needed to, sometimes I would look slightly away from where my camera was pointed. In the end, it was fine and I don’t think anyone noticed what I was doing.

I didn’t have a particular topic so to speak when it came to photographing, just to get out and shoot some pictures. There were several good pictures and, in particular, I like the vendor giving change picture, the dog looking at their owner in awe and then the two pictures with the kids in them.

In the end, it was the emotion that the pictures conveyed that really made me pick the ones I did.

I learned a lot about the camera and this experience gave me inspiration on what to try next. My goal is to try some type of street photography at least once a month.

So stay tuned, you never know where I’ll end up next.
